Leave TimeToronto

Privacy

Leave Time is made by Tim Rhodes in Ontario, Canada. It is free, needs no account and shows no ads. Nothing about you is sold.

On your device

Your commute (where you start, where you're headed, your times and settings), your padding and traffic margin, drive and walk times already measured, and small notes the page keeps for itself, like notices you've read. A random browser id is kept too, so repeat visits can be counted. Clear my setup, in Settings, removes all of it.

When you search

The addresses you type go to Google Maps Platform as you type them, to find the place, and with your departure times, to time the drive and walk. If you tap Use my location in an address box, your phone's position goes to Google to turn it into an address. Mapbox times the roads and draws the map, so it sees the area shown. If Mapbox's map is down, OpenStreetMap draws it. If you paste a Google or Apple Maps short link, Leave Time opens it once to see where it points. Leave Time's servers don't keep your addresses.

The setting that tells if you've left compares your location on your device and never sends it.

What Leave Time logs

Each page view, with the page, the address of the page you came from, your browser id and the time. When you use the page, a short event: a search ran, a trip was added to a calendar, the direction was switched, or something failed and which service failed. If you're signed in to The Drawer, your account id is attached. Nothing about your trip or your addresses. Page views and events are kept for 13 months.

To keep the free lookups fair, a scrambled copy of a second random id, or of your IP address, is counted each day. Those counts are kept for 7 days.

Google Analytics

Leave Time uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages get used. It sets cookies and collects things like the pages you view, your device and browser, a rough location from your IP address, and how you arrived. Google handles this under its own privacy policy. You can block it with Google's opt-out browser add-on or your browser's tracking settings, and Leave Time still works.

Fonts

The typeface comes from Google Fonts, so Google sees your IP address when it loads.

Chipping in

If you chip in, Stripe takes the payment. Leave Time never sees your card and doesn't ask for your email. I see the amount and what Stripe shows me.

Feedback

If you send feedback, it is stored with the page you were on, your browser id, your browser type, and your email if you give one. It is emailed to me through Resend and kept for 12 months.

Email updates

If you sign up to hear when something new ships, your email, when you agreed, your browser type and a scrambled version of your IP address are kept until you unsubscribe. The confirmation goes out through Resend. If you never confirm, it is all deleted after 7 days. When you unsubscribe, only a scrambled copy of your email is kept, so it is never sent to again.

The online count

The count at the bottom of the page uses a random key for each page load and keeps nothing. Using a bump keeps your browser id and when your bumps come back, and deletes it 7 days after.

Where it runs

Leave Time runs on Netlify, which keeps standard request logs, including IP addresses, for a short time. Its data lives with Supabase, which sees your IP address when the page loads timetables or logs a visit.
