Leave TimeToronto

Questions

What Leave Time does, what it keeps, and where it works.

What is Leave Time?

A free tool that tells you when to leave home to make your train in the Toronto region. It checks the GO, UP Express and TTC stations within reach of you, because the nearest station is often not the fastest.

How is it different from Google Maps?

Google Maps can plan by arrival time, but it gives you one route. Leave Time compares the stations you could drive or walk to, and counts every minute along the way: the drive, a traffic allowance, parking, the platform, and the walk at the other end. Then it tells you which station gets you there with the latest leave time.

Is it free?

Yes. There are no ads and no account. You can chip in if it helps you, but it stays free either way.

Which trains does it cover?

GO Transit trains, UP Express and the TTC subway, using Metrolinx's published schedules, live GO delays where available, and TTC schedules.

Where does it work?

From anywhere within about 100 km of a GO or UP Express station. A TTC subway station counts when you can walk to it or park there.

Can it get me to Pearson airport?

Yes. Use a one-off trip: it plans the UP Express to Pearson, including the Terminal Link train to Terminal 3.

How accurate is it?

Every time is an estimate. It uses real timetables and adds an allowance for traffic, which you can make larger or smaller. Always check the official source for anything that matters, like a flight.

Does it save my address?

Your commute stays in your own browser. Addresses are sent to Google Maps to measure the trip, and Mapbox receives map points, not addresses. If you tap "Use my location," your position is sent once to Google to find the nearest street address. Nothing about your commute is stored on Leave Time's servers.

Is it an official GO or TTC app?

No. It's made by one person, Tim Rhodes, and isn't connected to Metrolinx, GO Transit, UP Express or the TTC.

Can I add it to my home screen?

Yes. On iPhone, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen. On Android, use your browser's install option, or the "Add to home screen" link at the bottom of the page in browsers that support installing, such as Chrome, Edge and Samsung Internet.
